From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Cars can come in a large variety of different body styles. Some are still in production, while others are of historical interest only. These styles are largely (though not completely) independent of a car's classification in terms of price, size and intended broad market; the same car model might be available in multiple body styles (or model ranges). For some of the following terms, especially relating to four-wheel drive / SUV models and minivan / MPV models, the distinction between body style and classification is particularly narrow. Please note that while each body style has a historical and technical definition, in common usage such definitions are often blurred. Over time, the common usage of each term evolves. For example, people often call 4-passenger sport coupés a "sports car", while purists will insist that a sports car by definition is limited to two-place vehicles. Body workIn automotive engineering, the bodywork of an automobile is the structure which protects:
In vehicles with a separate frame or chassis, the term bodywork is normally applied to only the non-structural panels, including doors and other movable panels, but it may also be used more generally to include the structural components which support the mechanical components. Asked by Scotland - Sun Oct 11 02:51:11 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You're referring to what is known as "Self-Shielded" Flux Core Arc Welding. In my opinion this process bears only a superficial resemblance to MIG. Frankly, this process not well suited to the thin gauge metal of a car body. In order to avoid burning through such thin metal, you'll have to turn the voltage and wire feed speed parameters so low that good, consistent fusion and metal transfer becomes almost impossible. I would generally advise against using self-shielded FCAW on anything thinner than 3/32" or 12 Ga. This is a process that is suitable for small metal fabrication jobs for a hobbyist, not for thin-gauge auto bodywork! Frankly, if you want to make a weld that is anywhere near acceptable, you need to use gas-shielded GMAW, aka… [cont.] Answered by W MBAT is Sparky - Sun Oct 11 21:37:28 2009 What is the best way to care for carbon fibre bodywork on a motorcycle? Q. Has anyone ever used Chips Away to get bodywork repairs done to their car are they any good? Asked by Nel - Mon Mar 10 22:08:52 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Someone told me a few years ago that they had it done to their car. They said that from a distance you could not tell that there had been any chips but when you examined more closely you could see the blemishes underneath. He obviously knew where to look because he knew where the repair work had been rectified but for anybody who didn't know I reckon they wouldn't have found them.
